| MATRIX Description | Designation |
Cured concrete with non abrasive, critically hard aggregate. Concrete pavement made with Portland cement is usually hard and dense after curing and normally does not produce an abrasive slurry when being drilled. A softer matrix is desirable because it allows the diamonds to be exposed which achieves a faster penetration rate. |
MS |
Heavily reinforced concrete structures are strong, dense and hard, requiring a fast cutting diamond bit set with the highest concentration of the strongest diamonds and a tough matrix designed for the high steel environment. Providing fast penetration in both steel and concrete. |
MMS |
Cured concrete with medium hard aggregate. |
MM |
When you need to use the same Diamond bit to drill both concrete and asphalt, or when drilling asphalt over concrete, a combination matrix is recommended. Having superior abrasive resistance over a normal concrete matrix and still able to give good performance in concrete. |
MMH |
When drilling asphalt pavement a very abrasive slurry is created which erodes the matrix holding the diamonds in place. Therefore an abrasive resistant matrix should be used to prevent diamond loss. |
